My new website is just around the corner

I have been busy preparing a new website that is more aligned with my vision for Essential Heart and Soul.  A place that is both informative and easier to navigate than what I have here.  I cannot wait to share it with you.

I have learnt a really big lesson though, some things cannot be rushed.  So whilst I cannot wait to show you what it will look like NOW there are some final tweaks going on in the back ground.  Please make sure you read all my event information on my facebook page here as I am finding it more difficult to update to this website.

Hope you have something new and exciting on your agenda at the moment.  Looking forward to launching my new website with you all soon,

With Love and Gratitude,

Using Essential Oils in a diffuser

DLb6-04_BH-DEO-KIT-MIX_H-1I think one of the most amazing ways to use Essential Oils is having them running throughout your home or office in a diffuser. My love of Essential oils started back in high school when I was given an oil burner, you placed some water and drops of essential oils in the top and a tea light underneath.  I loved it and used it regularly.

These days I have discovered that we have moved away from that traditional method of oil burners and there are good reasons for this.  The oils that I choose to you use today have amazing therapeutic qualities and are therefore better used without heat.  Having young children I also much prefer something without on open flame.

So how does a diffuser work?

Basically it creates a fine mist and sends tiny oil particles out into the air.  Following the manufacturers instructions, you would fill the diffuser with water and then use a few drops of essential oils.  In more technical terms –  a diffuser permeates an ultra-fine, yet substantial mist output into the air, releasing the aromatic and therapeutic benefits of essential oils quickly and safely.  It does this without heating and helps purify and humidify the air.

How can the oils be of therapeutic benefit if used in a diffuser?

Firstly, this most definitely comes down to the oils you are using.  So always choose Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade oils.   These oils are free from pesticides, fillers and all contaminants.  They are 100% from the plant and sourced where they are indigenously grown.   Knowing there is nothing added to the oils means they are safe for me to use in my home.  You would never want to be inhaling something manufactured and synthetic throughout your home.

In terms of using the oils in a diffuser, this is an aromatic use of essential oils.  Using Essential Oils aromatically may have the following benefits:

– Cleansing the air

–  Assisting respiratory issues

–  Supporting sleep and relaxation

–  Impacting the mood

–  Assisting with focus and concentration

–  Boosting the immune system

–  Having a beautiful smelling home all naturally!!!

Yes you can use the oils aromatically without a diffuser (try a drop cupped in your hands and inhaled) but having the diffuser used in your home allows the oils to therapeutically disperse throughout the air giving you those benefits above.

I am lucky enough to have several diffusers around my home and they are used on a regular basis.  Each diffuser that I use is good for a room size of  around 30 square metres but the reason I have so many is that they are used in our bedrooms at night.  Whilst it is easy enough to move them around and set them up where you need it, the kids love to have their very own one ready for our night time ritual.

What are some of my favourite combinations?

If you are just starting out reach for any oils you are drawn too.  There are also some truly amazing blends that are therapeutically matched ready for you to use aromatically. I love Balance for grounding and emotional support and it has a beautiful sweet and subtle aroma.  If you need a mid afternoon pick me up or just the aroma of fresh citrus wafting throughout the house, Citrus Bliss is amazing.  Looking for some joy and happiness? – Elevation is a great choice for those days you need a little boost.  Need some help to kick some goals, build momentum or unleash some creativity- Motivate is a new favourite of mine, it combines mints and citrus in a blend that is fresh, clean and minty!

If you love blending your own combinations I personally love- Wild Orange and Peppermint (such an uplifting, pep you up blend), Frankincense and Lime (Refreshing and happy) or Balance and Lavender (my go to for chill out time).

For sleep and calming down – I use a combination of Balance, Frankincense and Cedarwood and this is the blend used in my sons diffuser at night.  If you prefer a blend already made up Lavender Peace is an easy and effective option.

For the cooler months we love Easy Air which supports respiratory health and Onguard which protects my family against seasonal threats.  Easy Air is a regular for my daughters room which helps her sleep and breathe easy all night.

As always complete your own research into using essential oils to ensure you use them safely for your circumstances and family. Classes are a great way to learn more.

The possibilities are endless.  I hope you are enjoying the benefits of diffusing oils in your home and I would love to know your favourite combinations. Happy diffusing!!!

My Essential Day

The other night I was sharing a story on how essential oils have truly changed my life.  As a matter of fact, I cannot even recall what I did without them!  They are just everywhere now.  So I thought I would share with you how I incorporate the oils into my daily life.

Firstly I have a little stash of oils on my bedside table and if I need a little help in the morning getting out of bed I reach for Wild Orange.  It’s uplifting and invigorating so a great pick me up.  Spiritually and emotionally its the ‘Oil of Abundance’ – think about a huge beautiful orange tree laden with an abundance of juicy sweet oranges – now that’s a perfect way to start the day!

Having a shower is a great time to use an essential oil, I love to use a drop in the shower so when the hot water hits it, the smell is amazing.  My favourites range from:  Easy Air Respiratory Blend when I want a hit of something that opens up my airways, Peppermint and Citrus Bliss together for a pep up with uplift and Spearmint which is amazingly refreshing and a great cheer me up. To prolong the aroma in the shower adding a few drops to a washcloth and leaving in there is also a great option.

I love to use doterra’s Unscented Hand and Body Lotion.  Not only is it a beautiful lotion which is silky smooth it is also designed to use with any essential oil.  This means I can customise it every single day.  Lately I have become a bit obsessed with using Geranium.  It’s great for the skin and emotional balance and smells divine.

I always start my day with Balance Grounding Blend.  I use a drop on the bottom of each foot.  This blend does exactly what it says, it grounds you.  Its like a big tree hug with oils such as Spruce, Ho Wood, Frankincense, Blue Tansy and Blue Chamomile.  The support I feel emotionally from this oil is why it is my absolute favourite and one I would never be without.  Its also great in a diffuser whilst meditating or any time of the day you want some calm, peace and tranquillity!

I love to have a smoothie for breakfast because its quick and I know I can pack it with heaps of goodness to start my day.  I love to add a few drops of Wild Orange to mine, although any of the citrus oils would work perfectly.  Just remember to read your labels and only use essential oils that are 100% certified pure therapeutic grade.  These are so pure and potent so start with 1 drop.

For my children in the mornings and especially in the cooler months we use a roller blend of Fractionated Coconut Oil and On Guard Protective Blend.  On the bottom of the feet is a perfect place for application especially for children as they have more sensitive skin and the oils get into the blood stream quickly via this method.  This amazing essential oil blend is to boost immunity and the oils in this blend have been studied for their strong abilities to kill harmful bacteria, mould and viruses. I really think this oil helps our family through the winter months.  It can also be diffused into the air and used as a cleaner throughout the home.

The kids and I will also use Intune Focus Blend by swiping it at the back of our necks or again on the bottom of our feet (recommended for sensitive skin).  This blend helps with focus, concentration and a balanced state of mind! I think it helps with clarity and is calming also.

Essential oils make a beautiful non toxic and 100% natural perfumes.  Just go with the aroma you love the most or doTERRA even has a blend specifically to be used as a natural perfume. It’s called Whisper and works with your bodies chemistry to create a uniquely personal fragrance. It has a warm musky aroma which I love and as an added bonus the oils in this (Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, Patchouli, Vanilla Bean, Jasmine, Cinnamon, Labdanum, Vetiver, Sandalwood, Cocoa Bean and Rose) can also help balance hormones.

I will use my diffuser at various times of the day depending on how I am feeling.  There are so many blends available or you can try your own combinations.  Some of my favourites include Frankincense and Motivate (Frankincense for Cellular Health and Motivate speaks for itself), Peppermint and Wild Orange (Uplift and pep up in the afternoon), Elevation Joyful Blend (promoting joy and happiness) or Lavender Peace Calming Blend (afternoon and evening calming and wind down time). Using essential oils through something like a diffuser is an aromatic way of using the oils.  You could also drop in your hands and breathe in the oils or smell directly from the bottle.  Inhaling the aroma of the oil is a powerful way to affect memory, hormones and emotions through the olfactory system.  It is also effective for your sinuses or respiratory system.

Around the home the essential oils can be used in your washing, drying, dishwasher, to make non-toxic all natural cleaning sprays and more!  Searching up recipes and ways to use the essential oils around your home can save you spending a small fortune in the cleaning aisle and you will be using something that is natural with no nasty synthetic side effects! Win, win!

In my home, the essential oils are also used for skin irritations, falls, scrapes, cuts, stuffy noses, headaches, aches, pains and all other minor day to day issues a family finds themselves in.  I love empowering my children to reach for something natural, pure and from the earth rather than something synthetic.  Essential Oils are loved and have been embraced by the kids as much as I adore them.  It makes me super happy knowing that our trips to doctors and chemists have greatly diminished since I found these amazing oils!

My children have diffusers in their bedroom for night time.  My 2 sons share a bedroom and are really really hard to get to sleep!  There are plenty of options to try to help with sleep and rest but the one I like is 2 drops Frankincense, 2 drops Cedarwood and 2 drops Balance.  This combination is earthy, grounding and helps them to wind down.  Many people find a simple Lavender is good for night time or others will use some of those woody and earthy oils such as Vetiver, Roman Chamomile, Juniper Berry, Patchouli or Marjoram.

My boys actually love to put some Juniper Berry on the bottom of their feet at night.  Emotionally Juniper Berry is known as the ‘Oil of Night’ and assists those who fear the dark.  My boys believe it helps them not have bad dreams so has become part of their nightly ritual.

For my daughter who has some respiratory issues, Easy Air Respiratory Blend is the oil that we use in her diffuser. This blend has Laurel, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Melaleuca, Lemon, Ravensara and Cardamom. This helps her have a restful sleep, clear airways and easy breathing.

For me on my bedside table I keep a bottle of Digestzen Digestive Blend (this is great for nausea, heartburn and any digestive complaints – perfect on hand for kids coming in to your room in the middle of the night!), Easy Air Respiratory Blend (I just love to have this close by in case I feel a cold coming on during the night) and Wild Orange ready for my morning pick me up (surprisingly Wild Orange is also great to help you get to sleep!  Go figure).

There are thousands of uses for these oils and these are just a few ways they are used and loved in my home. Essential oils are powerful and potent so please do your research when using them yourself.  If you want to know more I would love to chat with you.  Sharing these oils is my absolute passion and privilege. Learning how to properly use these oils and incorporating them into your life is a blessing and one I am thankful for everyday.

Pure Bliss

20160311_115442This picture above pretty much summed up my morning today and it was pure bliss.

Lately I have seemed to feel a bit off balanced and scattered and I know my meditation practise has gone by the wayside.  There is always so much running around to do, the kids need attention, life is busy, the house work is never finished, you know how it is!  But today I honoured the fact that I need attention.  I need to quiet my mind even if only for a few minutes and renew and replenish my soul.

Today I put my favourite essential oil in the diffuser… Balance.  This is the grounding blend and is perfect for emotional support and promoting a sense of relaxation and calm. It’s sweet woody aroma was like a huge hug and I literally had my head over the diffusers sweet mist soaking it in.

I put another essential oil on my wrists, Peace.  A blend of florals and mints that promotes feelings of peace, reassurance and contentment.  Smelling this combined with the Balance was the perfect way to support my ‘me’ time.

With my clear quartz crystal beside me I simply closed my eyes.  Although I had a racing mind I pushed the thoughts out of my head as they came in and simply tried to just be. Bliss. I meditated and concentrated on my breathing, I picked up my journal and wrote from the heart.  I wrote a few things that I should do today and it was way different from the ‘to do’ list I left sitting on my work desk.  This list was full of things to support and inspire me, ensuring my day is fulfilling and meaningful.

Today I reached for my Heart and Soul Oracle Cards by Toni Carmine Salerno for some added guidance.  As I shuffled the cards, one fell out, the perfect sign this is the card for me, it read:

I come to awaken sleeping hearts.

Like a bolt of lightening from the astral world

I appear as inspiration, a dream or idea.

I fill your heart with creative light

and illuminate your mind

so that the universe and all creation

can find a space within your soul.

This is a time of dreaming big –

the possibilities are endless.

This is so perfect for me right now.

Despite loving the journey I am on right now, in the last couple of weeks I have had this inkling that there is even more I should be exploring.  Like I am missing a really important piece of life’s puzzle. I am almost there and so very close but there is a whole other side to me I have not yet unlocked, explored or tapped into.   And doesn’t that last line say it all…

This is a time of dreaming big –

the possibilities are endless.

What are you dreaming big?

I look up at the clock and it’s 11.11.  Thank you universe, I am listening, you have my attention and more importantly I know you have my back.

Change your story

water sunriseWhat is something you tell yourself that you would really like to change?  I know for me, it is that I am “not a morning person”.  I have always thought you were either a morning person or a night owl, and myself and my entire family all easily fit into the latter category.

When I hear the story of the person who has put a load of washing on, cooked their breakfast, exercised, meditated whatever it is before I have even woken up for the day I am impressed.  I wish that could be me.  Then that little voice pipes in and says “but you are not a morning person”.  Ok I think that will never be me.

My days seem so full lately that I cannot possibly fit everything in and these days in particular always see me wishing I had achieved more while the house was quiet.  Imagining if I only had an extra 20 minutes to squeeze out of my day.

And you know what – I do.

It’s in the morning.  When I would rather be in bed.

I do always try to set my intention for the day as I first wake and spend a few moments planning out my day but this is always such a quick practice when what I would really like is a good solid 20 minutes of peacefully and calmly beginning my day.

So today I set the alarm 20 minutes earlier (it’s a start) and headed straight over to meditate and journal.  If in my day I get a chance to do it again for even longer that will be a bonus to my day.  But knowing I have taken that time to complete something so precious to me has really helped my morning and day to flow. I feel so much more centrered, so much calmer and ready to take on the day.

Oh and I stopped telling myself that I am not a morning person and just focused on what I wanted to achieve – time to myself before everyone else in the house is awake for the day. So I am trying my best to replace “I am not a morning person” with “I wake up in time to achieve what I need” and that makes me feel so much more in control.

I can’t promise every day this is going to work for me, but I am going to make it my intention every night that I wake a little earlier and start my day in the way that really feels right to me.

Do you tell yourself things that don’t serve you?  Maybe today you can take a few moments to think about those things and rephrase your story.  Or make up a whole different one that serves you better, inspires you to make changes for your greater good and helps to stop those self-defeating beliefs.

Tell me a bit about how you can change your story and have an amazing day today!

Keeping it Real

merry go round

I had this sweet blog post to share with you all today about how I am telling myself a different message to help me get more out of my day.

But today doesn’t feel like the day for that one.

Any of my friends would probably tell you some of the words to describe me are calm and patient.  I have 4 children – one a teenager, one girl who thinks she is a teenager and 2 boisterous noisy messy boys! There is never a dull moment in this house.  There is fighting, there is noise (boy is there noise) and there is mess.  There is also lots of laughs, games, fun and bucketful’s of love I might add. But through it all I am often asked how I remain so calm.

I would like to think it’s my meditation and mindful practices that come into play here but I know they are only something I recently truly adopted into my life.  I guess I have always been on the calmer side and am naturally more of a peace maker rather than a person that gets their back up easily.  I do enjoy being that calming influence in an otherwise hectic situation.

This morning though was one of those mornings where my patience and my inner calm were truly tested.  For starters I woke up tired and groggy and I am not normally one to hit the snooze button but in that instant when I thought about where I could cut corners in my morning that felt like a good idea.  So snooze button it was.   10 minutes later and I really needed to get up.  All of my children seem to be night owls and are not great in the morning so it is a real mission to get them out of bed.  (Side note here: any ideas for getting children out of bed easily – I am contemplating a water pistol next???).

Once everyone was awake my 8 year old son just had to pick on his little brother so it was a morning of boys fighting and rolling around the floor brawling.  It was a morning of a daughter who didn’t brush her hair last night after the shower so was practically in tears through the whole hair brushing saga.  This is the child who also seems to work in slow motion when it is getting ready for school time.  I felt pushed and pulled in all different directions as I tried to finish off lunches, referee the boys, keep everyone moving and try to get out the door on time.

It was one of those mornings.  Noisy. Chaotic.  Draining.  Real.

Oh and did I mention they made it to school 5 minutes AFTER the bell today.

Now I am at home to clean up the chaos of the morning and hopefully fit in some time to meditate and calm my mind.  It’s no surprise to me that hitting that snooze button this morning put me on the back foot from the start as I rushed through my morning and didn’t do the things I like to do to make sure I start my mornings right (setting intentions, being grateful – just simple and so quick to do).  Instead I started the day thinking and knowing I was behind schedule and my children probably picked up on my energy and the whole morning was pretty much a shambles.

So I am not calm ALL of the time and many days my children can and do really push my buttons.

My lesson today – no snooze button, have a mindful morning (no matter how rushed you are) and find a water pistol to get the kids out of bed quickly tomorrow!

I would love to know how your morning was today?  Is yours also a mixture of calm one minute and chaos the next?

What message do you need to hear right now?

you are amazingSometimes we just need to hear a simple phrase, read an inspiring story or receive a piece of advice that you just needed to hear.

I think that is why I love Oracle and Tarot Cards so much.  They always seem to give me that little something I need to hear and are always perfect for where I am right then and there.

Before bed last night I picked up one of my decks, You are Clairvoyant by Belinda Grace. I simply asked the question ‘what do I need to know right now?’.  The card I received was ‘Wisdom’.

My first reaction was what does that mean ‘I am wise’ “I’m not wise” “Find someone who is wise”.  I knew that kind of questioning was getting me nowhere.  As I sat and closed my eyes, breathed and centred myself, the message came loud and clear “The answers are within you”.

You see starting this blog has really opened up some wounds I never even knew existed.  Instead of being ‘just Jenni’ or ‘just a mum’ I was putting myself out there into the big bold online world.  Somehow I started to think I had to know it all which in turn just plagues me with more self doubt than I ever have had in my whole life.

And don’t get me started on how self defeating comparing yourself to others can be!  When you get immersed in what everyone else is doing it can really start the seed of self -doubt and stifle your own creativity.

So back to my card – the Guide Book to the cards had the following points amongst it:

Natural Wisdom lies within you, you are a very wise person.  (well thank you).

Stop comparing yourself with others and imagining you are the only one who doesn’t have all of the answers (yep needed to hear that one!)

Stop wondering if people who have never stood in your shoes will approve of your choices and actions (I love this, I am sure many people like myself spend too much time wondering what others think of them).

And my favourite part from the book:

“When you are willing to meet the Universe half way, with your intention clear and strong, miracles big and small will begin to happen. The Universe will come to meet you face to face to help you be the wise one at the centre of your own creation”.     Belinda Grace

I believe that.  I don’t just want to be a mum, just a blogger I want to be so much more and I am stepping up and meeting the Universe half way.  I am ready for opportunities and the next step of my journey. I see this blog as one way I am calling out boldly I am ready.

Maybe one of the messages I received from the card was a message meant for you also?

If not maybe one of these is meant just for you today:

  • You are enough
  • You are exactly where you are meant to be right now
  • Keep moving in the direction of your dream, it is worth it
  • Don’t give up, keep dreaming, planning, doing and being.  The life of your dreams awaits you.
  •  You are so much stronger than you think you are
  • You are AWESOME!

Do you think one of these messages is right for you today?  If not what message do you think your heart may be trying to tell you?   Write it down and say it out loud until you start to believe it, you are enough and you are amazing!

Moments that matter

walkway unsplashThis morning I was greeted by my son running in and jumping into my bed and giving me a great big cuddle. Being that he is not the most affectionate child to begin with these simple acts have so much meaning to me.

As I got up and ready for the day ahead he stayed in my bed chatting to me the whole time.   His brother is 2 years younger than he is; they share a room, share common interests and are pretty much thick as thieves.  When he got up and couldn’t find his big brother he asked me where he was.  By this time I was in the kitchen preparing breakfast and told him he would find his brother in my room.  He went tearing through the house, screaming excitedly while he found his brother.  By the time I went in there they were laying in bed together, hugging and the joy on their faces was priceless!

What a great start to my day.

I was able to spend those few precious moments looking at these 2 amazing beings, full of love and joy and happiness and soak up that emotion.  My heart was filled with love and gratitude and the rush rush rush of the morning was replaced with incredible joy.

These are the moments that matter. These are the moments to treasure.

I am guilty lately of getting caught up in the busy.  The rush.  The never ending to do list and moving quickly from one activity to the next.  Sometimes I have to remind myself to eat lunch or take a quick breather as otherwise the days can be over in the blink of an eye. This morning I was reminded that small moments can have huge impact in our lives and if we are too busy we can miss what is staring us in the face.

I have always loved this quote and it seems so perfect for me today

Enjoy-the-little-things quote

I hope in your busy day you have taken the time to really cherish the beautiful moments that make up your life.  Next time you are immersed in that joyful and happy place I hope you can take a moment and say thank you.

I would love to know what little moments have made your heart sing today.

I hope you have a beautiful weekend – making memories, enjoying life and living with heart and soul.
