Pure Bliss

20160311_115442This picture above pretty much summed up my morning today and it was pure bliss.

Lately I have seemed to feel a bit off balanced and scattered and I know my meditation practise has gone by the wayside.  There is always so much running around to do, the kids need attention, life is busy, the house work is never finished, you know how it is!  But today I honoured the fact that I need attention.  I need to quiet my mind even if only for a few minutes and renew and replenish my soul.

Today I put my favourite essential oil in the diffuser… Balance.  This is the grounding blend and is perfect for emotional support and promoting a sense of relaxation and calm. It’s sweet woody aroma was like a huge hug and I literally had my head over the diffusers sweet mist soaking it in.

I put another essential oil on my wrists, Peace.  A blend of florals and mints that promotes feelings of peace, reassurance and contentment.  Smelling this combined with the Balance was the perfect way to support my ‘me’ time.

With my clear quartz crystal beside me I simply closed my eyes.  Although I had a racing mind I pushed the thoughts out of my head as they came in and simply tried to just be. Bliss. I meditated and concentrated on my breathing, I picked up my journal and wrote from the heart.  I wrote a few things that I should do today and it was way different from the ‘to do’ list I left sitting on my work desk.  This list was full of things to support and inspire me, ensuring my day is fulfilling and meaningful.

Today I reached for my Heart and Soul Oracle Cards by Toni Carmine Salerno for some added guidance.  As I shuffled the cards, one fell out, the perfect sign this is the card for me, it read:

I come to awaken sleeping hearts.

Like a bolt of lightening from the astral world

I appear as inspiration, a dream or idea.

I fill your heart with creative light

and illuminate your mind

so that the universe and all creation

can find a space within your soul.

This is a time of dreaming big –

the possibilities are endless.

This is so perfect for me right now.

Despite loving the journey I am on right now, in the last couple of weeks I have had this inkling that there is even more I should be exploring.  Like I am missing a really important piece of life’s puzzle. I am almost there and so very close but there is a whole other side to me I have not yet unlocked, explored or tapped into.   And doesn’t that last line say it all…

This is a time of dreaming big –

the possibilities are endless.

What are you dreaming big?

I look up at the clock and it’s 11.11.  Thank you universe, I am listening, you have my attention and more importantly I know you have my back.

Change your story

water sunriseWhat is something you tell yourself that you would really like to change?  I know for me, it is that I am “not a morning person”.  I have always thought you were either a morning person or a night owl, and myself and my entire family all easily fit into the latter category.

When I hear the story of the person who has put a load of washing on, cooked their breakfast, exercised, meditated whatever it is before I have even woken up for the day I am impressed.  I wish that could be me.  Then that little voice pipes in and says “but you are not a morning person”.  Ok I think that will never be me.

My days seem so full lately that I cannot possibly fit everything in and these days in particular always see me wishing I had achieved more while the house was quiet.  Imagining if I only had an extra 20 minutes to squeeze out of my day.

And you know what – I do.

It’s in the morning.  When I would rather be in bed.

I do always try to set my intention for the day as I first wake and spend a few moments planning out my day but this is always such a quick practice when what I would really like is a good solid 20 minutes of peacefully and calmly beginning my day.

So today I set the alarm 20 minutes earlier (it’s a start) and headed straight over to meditate and journal.  If in my day I get a chance to do it again for even longer that will be a bonus to my day.  But knowing I have taken that time to complete something so precious to me has really helped my morning and day to flow. I feel so much more centrered, so much calmer and ready to take on the day.

Oh and I stopped telling myself that I am not a morning person and just focused on what I wanted to achieve – time to myself before everyone else in the house is awake for the day. So I am trying my best to replace “I am not a morning person” with “I wake up in time to achieve what I need” and that makes me feel so much more in control.

I can’t promise every day this is going to work for me, but I am going to make it my intention every night that I wake a little earlier and start my day in the way that really feels right to me.

Do you tell yourself things that don’t serve you?  Maybe today you can take a few moments to think about those things and rephrase your story.  Or make up a whole different one that serves you better, inspires you to make changes for your greater good and helps to stop those self-defeating beliefs.

Tell me a bit about how you can change your story and have an amazing day today!

Keeping it Real

merry go round

I had this sweet blog post to share with you all today about how I am telling myself a different message to help me get more out of my day.

But today doesn’t feel like the day for that one.

Any of my friends would probably tell you some of the words to describe me are calm and patient.  I have 4 children – one a teenager, one girl who thinks she is a teenager and 2 boisterous noisy messy boys! There is never a dull moment in this house.  There is fighting, there is noise (boy is there noise) and there is mess.  There is also lots of laughs, games, fun and bucketful’s of love I might add. But through it all I am often asked how I remain so calm.

I would like to think it’s my meditation and mindful practices that come into play here but I know they are only something I recently truly adopted into my life.  I guess I have always been on the calmer side and am naturally more of a peace maker rather than a person that gets their back up easily.  I do enjoy being that calming influence in an otherwise hectic situation.

This morning though was one of those mornings where my patience and my inner calm were truly tested.  For starters I woke up tired and groggy and I am not normally one to hit the snooze button but in that instant when I thought about where I could cut corners in my morning that felt like a good idea.  So snooze button it was.   10 minutes later and I really needed to get up.  All of my children seem to be night owls and are not great in the morning so it is a real mission to get them out of bed.  (Side note here: any ideas for getting children out of bed easily – I am contemplating a water pistol next???).

Once everyone was awake my 8 year old son just had to pick on his little brother so it was a morning of boys fighting and rolling around the floor brawling.  It was a morning of a daughter who didn’t brush her hair last night after the shower so was practically in tears through the whole hair brushing saga.  This is the child who also seems to work in slow motion when it is getting ready for school time.  I felt pushed and pulled in all different directions as I tried to finish off lunches, referee the boys, keep everyone moving and try to get out the door on time.

It was one of those mornings.  Noisy. Chaotic.  Draining.  Real.

Oh and did I mention they made it to school 5 minutes AFTER the bell today.

Now I am at home to clean up the chaos of the morning and hopefully fit in some time to meditate and calm my mind.  It’s no surprise to me that hitting that snooze button this morning put me on the back foot from the start as I rushed through my morning and didn’t do the things I like to do to make sure I start my mornings right (setting intentions, being grateful – just simple and so quick to do).  Instead I started the day thinking and knowing I was behind schedule and my children probably picked up on my energy and the whole morning was pretty much a shambles.

So I am not calm ALL of the time and many days my children can and do really push my buttons.

My lesson today – no snooze button, have a mindful morning (no matter how rushed you are) and find a water pistol to get the kids out of bed quickly tomorrow!

I would love to know how your morning was today?  Is yours also a mixture of calm one minute and chaos the next?

What message do you need to hear right now?

you are amazingSometimes we just need to hear a simple phrase, read an inspiring story or receive a piece of advice that you just needed to hear.

I think that is why I love Oracle and Tarot Cards so much.  They always seem to give me that little something I need to hear and are always perfect for where I am right then and there.

Before bed last night I picked up one of my decks, You are Clairvoyant by Belinda Grace. I simply asked the question ‘what do I need to know right now?’.  The card I received was ‘Wisdom’.

My first reaction was what does that mean ‘I am wise’ “I’m not wise” “Find someone who is wise”.  I knew that kind of questioning was getting me nowhere.  As I sat and closed my eyes, breathed and centred myself, the message came loud and clear “The answers are within you”.

You see starting this blog has really opened up some wounds I never even knew existed.  Instead of being ‘just Jenni’ or ‘just a mum’ I was putting myself out there into the big bold online world.  Somehow I started to think I had to know it all which in turn just plagues me with more self doubt than I ever have had in my whole life.

And don’t get me started on how self defeating comparing yourself to others can be!  When you get immersed in what everyone else is doing it can really start the seed of self -doubt and stifle your own creativity.

So back to my card – the Guide Book to the cards had the following points amongst it:

Natural Wisdom lies within you, you are a very wise person.  (well thank you).

Stop comparing yourself with others and imagining you are the only one who doesn’t have all of the answers (yep needed to hear that one!)

Stop wondering if people who have never stood in your shoes will approve of your choices and actions (I love this, I am sure many people like myself spend too much time wondering what others think of them).

And my favourite part from the book:

“When you are willing to meet the Universe half way, with your intention clear and strong, miracles big and small will begin to happen. The Universe will come to meet you face to face to help you be the wise one at the centre of your own creation”.     Belinda Grace

I believe that.  I don’t just want to be a mum, just a blogger I want to be so much more and I am stepping up and meeting the Universe half way.  I am ready for opportunities and the next step of my journey. I see this blog as one way I am calling out boldly I am ready.

Maybe one of the messages I received from the card was a message meant for you also?

If not maybe one of these is meant just for you today:

  • You are enough
  • You are exactly where you are meant to be right now
  • Keep moving in the direction of your dream, it is worth it
  • Don’t give up, keep dreaming, planning, doing and being.  The life of your dreams awaits you.
  •  You are so much stronger than you think you are
  • You are AWESOME!

Do you think one of these messages is right for you today?  If not what message do you think your heart may be trying to tell you?   Write it down and say it out loud until you start to believe it, you are enough and you are amazing!

Moments that matter

walkway unsplashThis morning I was greeted by my son running in and jumping into my bed and giving me a great big cuddle. Being that he is not the most affectionate child to begin with these simple acts have so much meaning to me.

As I got up and ready for the day ahead he stayed in my bed chatting to me the whole time.   His brother is 2 years younger than he is; they share a room, share common interests and are pretty much thick as thieves.  When he got up and couldn’t find his big brother he asked me where he was.  By this time I was in the kitchen preparing breakfast and told him he would find his brother in my room.  He went tearing through the house, screaming excitedly while he found his brother.  By the time I went in there they were laying in bed together, hugging and the joy on their faces was priceless!

What a great start to my day.

I was able to spend those few precious moments looking at these 2 amazing beings, full of love and joy and happiness and soak up that emotion.  My heart was filled with love and gratitude and the rush rush rush of the morning was replaced with incredible joy.

These are the moments that matter. These are the moments to treasure.

I am guilty lately of getting caught up in the busy.  The rush.  The never ending to do list and moving quickly from one activity to the next.  Sometimes I have to remind myself to eat lunch or take a quick breather as otherwise the days can be over in the blink of an eye. This morning I was reminded that small moments can have huge impact in our lives and if we are too busy we can miss what is staring us in the face.

I have always loved this quote and it seems so perfect for me today

Enjoy-the-little-things quote

I hope in your busy day you have taken the time to really cherish the beautiful moments that make up your life.  Next time you are immersed in that joyful and happy place I hope you can take a moment and say thank you.

I would love to know what little moments have made your heart sing today.

I hope you have a beautiful weekend – making memories, enjoying life and living with heart and soul.

Guided by intuition – a sneak peak into my meditation ritual

IMG_1588[1]Crystals, cards, oils, candles and trinkets.  I have managed to get myself a great stash of these over the past few months.  And they all have a part to play in the way I conduct my meditation practice.

One of the things I have been trying to work on is recognizing and acting upon my intuition.  In the past I have always thought that I wasn’t a particularly intuitive person but I think I was always expecting a huge neon light or the like was going to guide me through life.

I now realize that intuition is subtle and something that I need to harness by quieting my mind and putting the intention in place to follow it. For me it is mainly a feeling I can get, yes that is what I should be doing, no that isn’t feeling right. If I am rushing around at a million miles an hour it is much more difficult for me to recognise and act on my intuition.

A simple way I have been practicing this skill is when I have been setting myself up for my meditation practice.  Instead of picking the oracle card deck that I first see when I glance over to them, I now take some time and think about which one will give me the answers I seek.  I do the same when choosing a crystal and the essential oil I wish to work with.

Sometimes I feel a strong urge to use one over the other, sometimes I can get a feeling when I touch them that this is the one I should be using today.  Subtle shifts in energy that help me decide what I will be working with for the day.

I know this is just a small example of using intuition but I believe it’s all about starting small and starting to trust.  Yes Trust is a big one for me this year.  Trusting myself, my intuition, the universe and the process of life.  It is no wonder I am often led to work with the Trust Essential Oil.

Here is what I used today:

The oils I love to use are the Sacred Self Alchemical Oils and can be found here.

From the website:  Sacred Self products are hand-made with love during a meditation ceremony. Each item is energetically infused with sound, light, colour, sacred symbols, crystals and a pure intention.

They are divine and my collection continues to grow.  The one I used today was the Trust blend but others in the range I love to use also include Self Love, Abundance, Joy, Clarity and Inspiration.

The card deck I used today was the Gaia Oracle by Toni Carmine Salerno.  The card I pulled from the deck was Achievement – Keep focused on your dream. I am loving that, what a great message for me to continue forging forward.

My Gratitude journal is from Kikki-K.  I try to write in this most days as well as using my journal to further express what I am grateful for.

The crystal is a beautiful piece of Rose Quartz. This stone is one of unconditional love that opens the heart chakra to all forms of love.  It is also used to raise self-esteem and a strong sense of self-worth.

That is a little bit about my meditation ritual and how I incorporate intuition into my practice. I would love to know how you are going at trusting your intuition?

The beginning of my spiritual journey

tree background 18 feb useOver the last 6-12 months I have really started to take notice of what I want to be doing with my life.  I have been so fortunate to leave my traditional job behind and just be a mum and take care of the home and kids.  It has been amazing and something my husband and I worked towards for many years – setting ourselves up so we could live on the one salary and be ok.

For the past 5 years it was the #1 goal that we worked towards.  It was the goal on the vision board, written in my purse, laminated and in the shower (yep keeping it at the forefront every day) and written throughout my diary and journals.  As terrifying as it was to leave that safety net, we knew it was exactly the right step for us.

And it has been magic, don’t get me wrong.  But I could no longer ignore that little voice inside that told me, I wanted more.  Not to return to a corporate position but to be more than I currently was.

I attended some yoga classes but the thing that really got me was the spiritual side, the relaxing part where you can just quiet your mind and surrender.  So I started to meditate.  I had always loved to listen to motivational cd’s (this would be the thing that used to get me through my long drives to and from work) so finding some guided meditations seemed like the perfect place to start.  If you search on you tube or a simple Google search you will find loads of these.  It may take some time to find the ones that really resonate with you but it is well worth the search.

These guided meditations were exactly what I needed to focus on and help to stop my mind chatter and calm my thoughts.  Instead of thinking I needed to sit there in complete silence I could just listen and let go.

Despite never even having a psychic reading before, I was always intrigued with tarot cards so I started to buy some decks and experiment with them myself.  Asking questions and writing down what the cards were telling me, plus the thoughts and feelings that were coming up for me (my intuitive thinking side).  Before I knew it my meditation practice became centering myself with deep breaths and silence, simple card readings and then picking up my journal and writing whatever was coming to me.

I realized that meditating really did unlock an amazing side of me.  A side that was no longer about ego or the what ifs and what nows, but a side that felt like pure love and joy.   The messages coming through were all about how I should be living my life, being grateful and showing compassion and kindness.  Even though I would like to think that is how I lived my life already, these messages were like a breath of fresh air in an otherwise busy and hectic life.

I now journal each and everyday.  Sometimes I think I have nothing to write but then I can sit and centre myself  and the words flow freely.  Other times I might use a prompting question and then start from there.    Here are some I use a lot and can help start your practice:

  • What makes you happy?
  • What are you grateful for?
  • What was the best part of your day?
  • If you could snap your fingers and life was perfect how would it be?
  • What is your ideal day like?
  • What are some of your favourite things to do?

Taking these questions and journaling your answers is pure magic.  It enlivens your soul and instantly transforms your state of mind to a lighter and brighter place.  It’s a form of daydreaming that gives you a permanent record.  If you are having not the best day just flicking back through your journal can be enough to instantly make you feel better.   Putting this goodness out into the universe pays huge dividends and I believe really does attract more back to you.

After a few short months, I have journals full of my dreams, the things I am grateful for and an idea on how I want to spend my days.  I might not be clear on the whole picture yet but I have the motivation I need to keep moving forward on my journey.

There is so much more I have explored and I will share more in the future but for now I want to know if you are embarking on a spiritual journey and how it started for you?  If you like to journal what do you like to write about?

Learning to say no

IMG_0197 copyLately life has presented me with some opportunities that haven’t felt quite right.  In the past I have been the type of person that would always agree and say ‘yes’ even if part of me was screaming no.

Part of my transition to truly living with heart and soul is learning to listen to my inner voice, that voice of intuition that truly knows what is best for me.

So that has meant learning to say no instead of jumping in and saying yes and then feeling disappointed in myself for not speaking my truth.

If you are familiar with Chakra’s you will know that the throat charka is all about communication. When ever I have had energy work completed in the past there is almost always a blockage for me in my throat charka.  I know this has been due to my inability to speak up to others when I need too.

So what does this all mean?

To truly live the life we love we must honour ourselves first.  If something doesn’t feel quite right, don’t immediately agree to it. Instead of saying yes without thinking it properly through, tell them you will let them know and then take that time to decide for yourself, is this something you truly want to be doing, or is your answer a polite no.

Hayhouse author Cheryl Richardson has a whole chapter devoted to this in her book “The Art of Extreme Self-Care” The chapter is called Let me Disappoint You and this is a little piece from it:

“You’ll need to start saying no, setting limits, and putting boundaries in place to protect your time, energy and emotional needs”.                                           Cheryl Richardson

So how does it feel to say no?

Well approaching it in a manner that is truthful and kind really is key.  It is difficult enough if someone has asked something of you and you cannot commit so being tactful and expressing your true feelings really is the best course of action for everyone concerned.  After all going along with something when your heart is just not in it, doesn’t benefit them either.

Initially I have been worried about hurting the feelings of others and although that is still a concern for me, to actually speak up and express my true feelings is very empowering.  I know that each time I speak my true feelings I gain more confidence to travel the path I desire.

This has been a huge lesson for me lately and one that I know will come up for me time and time again.

Are there any life lessons that come up for you time and time again?

What have you had to say no to lately and how did that make you feel?

Monday message from my heart and soul

Jenni journal 2 Feb 2015

As part of my daily meditation practice, I love to journal.  After breathing and sitting in silence for a period of time I will pick up my journal, ask a question and simply write what comes to me.   During my meditation session this morning I asked:

What is the message I need to know today?

As I hurriedly journaled what came to me (see messy writing in photo above), I decided to share this message with you all.  So here is it unchanged – word for word, directly from my heart and soul. I hope there is something here you can use today.

19

Love, just love. Treat everyone you come across with love, respect and kindness.

You can learn something from every one. Maybe it is about them but it is always a lesson about yourself.

Someone wrongs you and your lesson may be to trust yourself as your gut was telling you this all along.

Someone wants to give you an amazing gift for no reason, your lesson is to accept with a grateful heart.  You will pay it forward when the time and conditions are right.

Someone criticizes you – learn to accept an opinion that you may not like, bless them with love and give yourself an added burst of love to build yourself up.

Self love is the most important of all.  You must learn to love yourself so that your love radiates from within your soul onto the souls of others.

This is the message for the day – love, love all, love yourself.

19I hope this message helps you today and you have a chance to listen to your own messages from your heart and soul. What messages have come up for you today?

Nourish yourself with 10 easy things you can do today

tea cupToday my children returned to school.  After six weeks of blissfully easy going mornings with no rushing around, there was a flurry of early morning activity and off they went.

The silence in the house is deafening.

For me though, I need the silence, I need to be still and quiet and just be.  It is the easiest way I have found to nourish myself and tune into the frequency of my heart and soul.  Enjoying a cuppa in the silence, writing in my journal it truly is my idea of bliss.

You might not have the perfect day today, maybe you are at work, maybe you have young kids at home or maybe your to do list is longer than you hoped.  But doing something just for you doesn’t need to be complicated or time consuming.

Here are 10 ways to easily nourish yourself today, see how many you can do now:

  1. Be grateful – say 10 things you are grateful for right now- say them out loud, write them down but feel grateful – it instantly enhances your mood.
  2. Breathe – yep slow and deep deliberate breaths to really centre yourself.
  3. Go outside and look up into the sky – marvel at the clouds, the bright blue sky, the drizzling rain. Just being outside can instantly transform you.
  4. Do something you love today that is just for you – read a few pages of your favourite book, catch up on a show you have been busting to see, take a bath.  Whatever works for you.
  5. Enjoy your favourite dinner tonight.
  6. Catch up with a friend – a chat, a phone call, maybe even only a text to let them know you are thinking of them.
  7. Listen to your favourite song, in the car or at home.  Crank it up if you want and escape for those few precious minutes.
  8. Keep a journal, write in it when you can or when it feels right.  This helps to get out all of that stuff swirling around in your head.  Plus it makes for great reading down the track!
  9. Drink some water, eat some fruit, do something that instantly nourishes your body that you know is super good for you.
  10. Use your good stuff.  Don’t wait for another day to use the good tea cup or the new top you have just purchased.  You are worth it right now, so don’t wait for tomorrow, you deserve it now!

Make time for yourself a priority, even if you need to schedule it in for later. Go for that walk after work, when the kids are napping – lie down yourself, before you go to bed tonight – read that book.

Nourishing yourself should be an important part of your day.  It’s not selfish to treat yourself with love and respect.  Enhancing your mood and feeling good will have a huge flow on effect to all of those around you.

“When you recover or discover something that nourishes your soul and brings joy, care enough about yourself to make room for it in your life.” – Jean Shinoda Bolen
